ARE PROPERTIES FREEHOLD ?

Is it Freehold, we are sometimes asked? – Yes it is freehold. It should go without saying that every residential property is freehold, as leasehold property does not exist in Spain. Having said that, it is common practise to sell business/commercial premises here in Spain on a leasehold, although the terms and conditions are rather different than we would understand them in the U.K. Such properties would come under the word Traspaso, and you would be expected to pay quite a large amount for the lease, depending of course on the type of business/location etc. and then continue to pay a monthly rent.

NO MORE RESIDENCE CARDS !!

No more queues, no more finger prints as if you're on the wanted list! It appears that Spain is in violation of European law by continuing to issue residence cards to European Union citizens, as according to the EU ruling 2004/38/EC they should not be issued after April 30th 2006.
